Acquisition of general information

When you visit our website, we automatically collect information of a general nature. This information (server log files) includes the type of web browser, the operating system, your ISP’s domain name and further similar data, none of which identifies you as an individual. This information is a technical requirement to allow the web page content you have requested to be correctly displayed and is necessarily incurred during internet usage. Anonymized information of this kind is statistically analyzed in order to optimize our web presence as well as the technology behind it.

Newsletter

The data you provide when registering for subscription to our newsletter service is exclusively used for that purpose, i.e. the delivery of our newsletter. Subscribers might receive notifications relevant to the usage or the registration of this service via e-mail (e.g. changes concerning the different newsletters available or technical conditions).
In order to successfully register your subscription, a valid e-mail address is required. In addition, we ask for your name, surname and sex. All other personal data provided by you is optional. In order to ensure that the actual owner of the e-mail address uses said address for the registration, we use the “double opt-in” procedure. In the course of this procedure, we log the subscription to the newsletter, the dispatch of a confirmation e-mail and the receipt of the requested answer. No further data is collected. The data is exclusively used for the newsletter dispatch and is not disclosed to third parties.
You can withdraw your consent to the storage of your personal data and its use for newsletter dispatch at any time. Every newsletter contains a link for this purpose. You can also unsubscribe directly from this website at any time or make a corresponding request using the contact details at the end of this document.

Contact form

The details provided when contacting us via e-mail or contact form will be saved in order to process your inquiry and any eventual follow-up questions.

Deletion and locking of data

We abide by the policies of data reduction and data economy. Your personal data will therefore only be saved as long as it is necessary to achieve the aforementioned purposes or as long as the storage periods specified by law provide for. Upon achieving their purposes or upon expiry of the storage periods, the respective data will be locked or deleted according to established routines and legal requirements.

Use of Google Analytics

This website uses Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google, Inc. (“Google”). Google Analytics uses “cookies”, which are text files placed on your computer, to help the website analyze how users use the site. The information generated by the cookie about your use of the website is normally transmitted to and stored by Google on servers in the United States. Due to the activation of the IP anonymization on this website however, Google will truncate/anonymize your IP address prior to storage for member states of the European Union as well as for other parties to the Agreement on the European Economic Area. This takes place on our website by extending the analytics code with the parameter “gat._anonymizeIp();” to ensure anonymized capture of IP addresses. Only in exceptional cases is the full IP address transmitted to a Google server in the USA and truncated there. On behalf of the operator of this website, Google will use this information for the purpose of evaluating your use of the website, compiling reports on website activity for website operators and providing other services relating to website activity and internet usage. Google will not associate your IP address with any other data held by Google. You may refuse the use of cookies by selecting the appropriate settings on your browser, however please note that if you do this you may not be able to use the full functionality of this website. Furthermore you can prevent Google’s collection and use of data relating to your use of the website (incl. your IP address), which has been generated by the cookie, by downloading and installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on available at the following link:

Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on
(For more details on installing and uninstalling the add-on, please see the relevant help resources for your specific browser.)

Cookies

Just like many other websites, we use so-called “cookies”. A cookie is a small file of letters and numbers that is automatically stored on your browser or the hard drive of your computer if you agree. Cookies contain anonymous information such as the IP address, type of browser or operating system that are transferred to both your computer’s hard drive and our server.
Cookies cannot be used to start programs or to transfer viruses on a computer. The data provided by these cookies helps us to optimize navigation on and the display of our website.
We will on no account disclose the collected data to third parties or connect said anonymous information to your personal data without your agreement.
Of course, you can visit our website without any cookies. Normally internet browsers accept cookies automatically. You can disable cookies at any time in your browser’s settings menu. Please see the relevant help resources of your browser to find out how to change these settings. Please note that particular functions of our website might not work with cookies disabled.

Use of Google Maps

This website makes use of Google Maps to show maps and directions for travel.
Google Maps is operated by Google Inc., 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA.
With the use of this website, you automatically accept the collection, processing and use of data that is collected automatically or is entered by yourself by Google, its representatives or third-party suppliers.
The conditions of use for Google Maps can be found at Google Maps/Earth Terms of Service.
More detailed information can be found in the data protection center of google.de: Transparency and Choice and Privacy Policy.

Google Adwords

Our website uses Google Conversion Tracking. If you reach our website via an advertisement placed by Google, Google Adwords creates a cookie on your computer. The cookie for conversion tracking is created as soon as a user clicks on an advertisement placed by Google. These cookies lose validity after 30 days and are not used to gather personal information. If a user visits certain websites with the conversion tracking cookie still active, we as well as Google are able to register that the user clicked on the advertisement placed by Google and was referred to the specific website. Every Google AdWords customer receives a different cookie. Thus, cookies cannot be monitored on the websites of AdWords customers. The data gathered by the conversion cookie is used to create conversion statistics for AdWords customers who have decided to use conversion tracking. The customers get to know the total number of users who clicked on their ad and were referred to a website with a conversion tracking tag. They do not, however, receive any information which would enable them to personally identify that user.
If you do not wish to participate in conversion tracking, you can reject the necessary placement of a cookie – for example by changing your web browser’s settings in order to force it to generally deactivate cookies or in order to block cookies by the domain “googleadservices.com”.
Please note that you must not delete the opt-out cookie as long as you do not wish your data to be collected. If you have deleted all cookies in your browser, you need to re-install the respective opt-out cookie again.

Your rights to information, correction, locking, deletion and objection

You are entitled to request information concerning your personal data saved on our servers at any time. Likewise, you are entitled to correction, locking or – except for the data saved for business purposes – deletion of your personal data. Please contact our data protection official concerning these issues. You will find the contact data at the bottom of this page.
To allow for the locking of data at any time, this data needs to be kept available in a separate locked file for validation purposes. You can also request the deletion of data providing there is no legal data storage obligation. If such an obligation exists, the data will be locked at your request.
You can make modifications to or revoke the agreement with future effect by sending us a corresponding message.

Social media plugins

The social media plugins on this page enable you to share articles of interest via your preferred networks.
Please note that these plugins transmit information (IP adress, no SSL protected data) as soon as you begin to access a social media site. This information is transmitted to the respective sites in the U.S. For this reason, we employ a 2-click procedure in which information is only passed on to third parties the moment you activate a button by clicking on it. After that you can use the button for sharing content in the usual way.

Changes to our data protection regulations

We reserve the right to occasionally modify our privacy policy in order to keep it up-to-date concerning legal requirements or in order to implement any changes to our services in the privacy policy, for example when new services are introduced. The updated privacy policy will then apply at your next visit.

Questions for the data protection official

If you have any questions concerning data privacy, feel free to send us an e-mail or contact our data protection official directly.
